It has been shown that COVID-19 can damage the placenta in pregnant women

Researchers from the CLÍNIC-IDIBAPS, the Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron and the Parc Taulí de Sabadell have shown the damage caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus to the placentas of around 200 pregnant women. A study led by Dr. Alfons Nadal from the Anatomical Pathology Service at the Hospital Clínic and member of the Molecular Pathology of Inflammatory Conditions and Solid Tumours Research Group of the IDIBAPS, has shown the fatal effect of COVID-19 on foetuses in a group of pregnant women between 24 and 39 years old.

This placental involvement is very infrequent (4.5% of pregnant women who have suffered COVID-19 according to this series)
