Narcís Monturiol Awards
By means of the Narcís Monturiol Awards, the Government of Catalonia recognizes individuals and institutions that carry out and promote research in Catalonia. These awards have been granted since 1982, “in order to honour entities and individuals who have made a significant contribution to Catalonia's scientific and technological progress”. Since they were created in 1982, up to 2022 a total of 301 medals had been awarded, 69 of which were given to women. A total of 47 plaques have been awarded to research centres and institutions.
In 2020, it was decided to present the awards on a regular basis, every two years. It was also decided that there should be equal representation in the composition of the list of winners, and number of medals to be awarded was set at 10 for individuals and 1 plaque for an institution.
