Most of the research of the Institute of Medical and Surgical Specialties (ICEMEQ) is carried out through the August Pi i Sunyer Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBAPS), in the areas of:

ICEMEQ research also works along the following lines:

• Inflammatory joint diseases. This line works to improve knowledge of and research on the most prevalent chronic inflammatory joint diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthropathies, including psoriatic arthritis..
• Musculoskeletal and plasticity repair. In this field, work is being done to improve the knowledge of bone pathophysiology, the effect of age and the assessment of the various techniques for fixing fractures and bone grafts.
