ICGON

The Clínic's Institute of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology

The Clinical Institute of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology is the area of the Hospital Clínic specialising in the health of women and newborns.

ICGON is the area of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona that focuses its activity on all phases of the human reproductive process, which include care for the baby, normal and complicated pregnancy and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female genital tract and breast.

The Institute is functionally included in the framework of BCNatal, a joint project between the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, which is one of the largest areas of reproductive and neonatal health in Catalonia, Spain and Europe.

ICGON / BCNatal offers all the highly complex techniques in its respective areas, is a national and international reference point, carries out numerous teaching activities and has one of the largest scientific productions in its field.

The ICGON carries out its activity in two of the main offices of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona: in Villarroel there is the Gynecology Service, and in the Maternity Office we find the Maternal and Fetal Medicine and Neonatology Services.

Some figures on the quality of BCNatal care (Hospital Clínic-Hospital Sant Joan de Déu):

  • 13.5% Low-risk cesarean rate
  • 16.6% Episiotomies
  • 9.6% Instrumentation
  • Patient experience: In case of a new pregnancy, would you return to BCNatal? More than 90% of women have answered yes.
