Living with Thyroid eye disease

Reading time: 1 min

The main objective of thyroid eye disease treatment is to combat the significant impact of the disease, both physically and psychologically. This is done by collaboration of the different specialists in a multidisciplinary unit.

This disease can be disabling for patients, with a significant impact on different spheres of their life (e.g. social, work and emotional) which affect their quality of life. If the disease worsens, the quality of life of patients can worsen. Some of the main influencing factors are double vision, active clinical score and high levels of thyroid-stimulating hormones. Therefore, medical care is one of the mainstays contributing to improving the quality of life. Psychological treatment can also be recommended as an accompaniment.

Leading a healthy lifestyle also plays an important role in maintaining good health in people with thyroid eye disease, both physically and psychologically. Following a healthy diet with healthy habits, such as not smoking, can help improve patient quality of life. Not smoking, for example, can prevent the disease from getting worse.
