Research on Decreased Foetal Movement

Reading time: 1 min

The main line of research focuses on determining tests to detect which babies move less for physiological (normal) reasons and which babies do so because there is a problem. Thus, parameters associated with the baby's circulation inside the uterus and the concentration of substances in the mother's blood that indicate how the placenta works are important markers.

There are ongoing studies in large populations (e.g. United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia) trying to establish whether informing women of certain warning signs and proper medical management of detected cases result in an improvement in results for the baby.
