In the last 20 years, research into pulmonary fibrosis has made a spectacular advance and is a subject of great scientific interest in the international research community. 

The main defined lines of research are:  

  • Investigation into epithelial alveolar damage and its abnormal repair. 

  • The role of the extracellular matrix. 

  • The development of pre-clinical animal models.  

  • The role of inflammation and immunity. 

  • Genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors. 

  • Translation of the research findings into diagnosis and treatment.
