Perinatal Mortality at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

About 60 cases of perinatal mortality are treated each year in the Hospital Clínic Maternity Unit. Studies of each case are carried out by a multidisciplinary team and a complete analysis made of possible causes (e.g. placenta, genetics, infections…). 20% of perinatal deaths have an unknown cause. In all cases, a report is issued with recommendations for future pregnancies.

Research is carried out, with the main line focusing on studying the placental causes that include two related diseases: growth retardation and preeclampsia. To promote openness and advances in the knowledge of perinatal mortality, the hospital's Maternity Unit is part of the International Stillbirth Alliance organisation.

The donations that can be done through this webpage are exclusively for the benefit of Hospital Clínic of Barcelona through Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica and not for BBVA Foundation, entity that collaborates with the project of PortalClínic.
