Optic Neuritis at Hospital Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

Hospital Clínic has a Neuro-Ophthalmology working group with expertise in optic nerve pathology. It works alongside the Neuroimmunology Unit at the Neurology Department.

About 100 patients with optic neuritis have been diagnosed and monitored in recent years. The Vía Visual (Visual Pathway) research group has participated in a new classification of optic neuritis developed by a global multi-centre group.

The group is working to develop structural markers for the study and follow-up of patients with optic neuritis, in order to improve the prognosis of each case and evaluate future therapeutic options.

The group participates in several research projects subsidised by the Ministry of Health (FIS), as well as by La Marató de TV3. The most recent is an ongoing study to evaluate electrophysiological tests (electroretinogram and visual evoked potentials) in optic neuritis.
