Prognosis of Japanese encephalitis

Reading time: 1 min

The majority of cases are asymptomatic. Less than 1% of people infected by the virus develop the neurological disease.

In symptomatic cases, mortality is high (around 20-30%), and up to half of patients who survive may experience neurological, cognitive or psychiatric side effects.
