Reading time: 1 min

In non-arteritic ischaemic optic neuropathy, the treatment consists of controlling risk factors: high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and high cholesterol.

Arteritic ischaemic optic neuropathy is initially treated with high doses of intravenous corticosteroids as soon as possible to prevent affectation of the other eye. Treatment is then administered orally.
