Risk factors for Ischaemic Optic Neuropathy

The risk factors that influence the appearance of ischaemic optic neuropathy are high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and high cholesterol.

Other risk factors are obstructive sleep apnoea; some medications (amiodarone and phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, such as sildenafil, used for erectile dysfunction); a tendency to develop blood clots; and nocturnal hypotension.
