Prognosis of Dengue

There are four types of dengue. The defences (antibodies) created by the immune system when infected by Dengue only protect the infected person against that specific type of dengue, probably for life. On the other hand, these defences do not protect against the other three types of the disease. For this reason, a person may be infected with the dengue virus up to four times in their life. 

In cases of reinfection, people who have already had dengue are at greater risk of developing a serious case of the disease.
