Diagnosis of Dengue

Reading time: 1 min

Diagnostic suspicion is based on the presence of compatible symptoms and a history of being in zones where Dengue is transmitted.

Initially, Dengue may be indistinguishable from other diseases, such as Zika and Chikungunya.

The diagnosis is confirmed by detecting genetic material or virus antigens in the blood, which are present in early stages of the disease, and also by detecting specific antibodies to the virus, which appear in the subsequent days and weeks.
