People diagnosed with Trypanosoma cruzi infection are advised to have regular medical check-ups to monitor the infection and detect possible complications early, for example heart or intestinal problems.

It is important to rule out the infection to family members or other people close to the patient, as in many cases they may also have been exposed to the parasite.
