Toolbox IDIBAPS Talk Series: Scientific Publishing at EMBO Press
Marie Sklodowska Curie Room, Esther Koplowitz Centre. C/Rosselló 149-153, 08036 Barcelona..
On Friday, May 23rd at 12 p.m., will take place the session Scientific Publishing at EMBO Press, led by Deniz Senyilmaz Tiebe, a senior scientific editor with EMBO Reports.
Deniz received her PhD from the University of Heidelberg in 2015. During her PhD work in the laboratory of Dr. Aurelio Teleman at the German Cancer Research Center, she uncovered a dedicated signalling pathway through which stearic acid regulates mitochondria. During her post-doc, one of her projects focused on a clinical study investigating the effects of dietary stearic acid on human metabolism. Deniz joined EMBO Press as a scientific editor in 2018.
In this session the speaker, a senior scientific editor with EMBO Reports, will take you behind the scenes of scientific publishing at EMBO Press. She will provide an overview of the editorial process of the four journals published by EMBO as a not-for-profit organization – The EMBO Journal, EMBO Reports, Molecular Systems Biology, and EMBO Molecular Medicine – and present a brief overview of the policies that EMBO Press has implemented. She will explain how editors make decisions, organize the peer review process and work with authors to improve a revised manuscript.
She will also talk about Open Science and transparency, about new initiatives such as refereed preprints and the journal-independent review platform Review Commons, about manuscript transfers within and into EMBO press, and about EMBO’s efforts to prevent errors and scientific misconduct from entering the literature.
This activity is open to participants both within and outside the institution. It is in-person event; at the Marie Sklodowska Curie Room of Esther Koplowitz Centre.
After the session, members of the IDIBAPS community can join a meeting with the expert upon prior request.
