Medication and older adults – is a good balance possible?

Ageing leads to an increase in chronic conditions and polypharmacy. The use of medications is also associated with adverse effects of varying intensity, which must be properly understood. A nihilistic approach—avoiding treatment just because of a person’s age—is not acceptable, nor is the opposite approach of overmedicating. It is therefore essential to find the right balance on an individual basis in order to achieve the greatest benefit with the least possible risk.
