Toolbox IDIBAPS Talk Series: Behind the scenes at Cell Metabolism

Esteve Auditorium, Centre Esther Koplowitz. C/Rosselló 149-153, 08036 Barcelona.

On Thursday, January 18th 2024 at 15h, the session Behind the Scenes at Cell Metabolism by Mari-Carmen Fernandez Aguera will take place. The speaker is scientific editor Cell Metabolism since 2020.

The speaker received her PhD at the University of Sevilla, where she studied the molecular mechanism of acute oxygen sensing in the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS). Then she moved to Boston to pursue her postdoctoral studies in DFCI/Harvard. Her research focused on the effect of different nutrient utilization on neuronal excitability and, ultimately, on brain activity, with the goal of developing new diet and drug-based therapies for pathologies such as epilepsy.

In this occasion the topic of the talk will be the publication of scientific articles. Publishing a research paper is the culmination of a scientific project. However, the path to publication, as research itself, is not always a straightforward one. In this presentation, we talk about what we look for in manuscripts, our editorial workflow and provide tips for effective communication with editors and reviewers.

This activity is open to people from inside and outside the institution. It is a hybrid event; it will be possible to participate directly in the Esteve Auditorium of Esther Koplowitz Centre or via Zoom. To access digitally it is necessary to register in advance to receive a personal connection link, there is time until the same day to do so.

After the session and by previous request, the members of the IDIBAPS community can participate in a meeting with the expert.

The activity is organized with the support of the Fundación Española por la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. This is also promoted by the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) of the institution.
