Neurodegenerative movement disorders: diagnose and treatment
Development of research projects expected to yield short term application in the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson disease and other neurodegenerative movement disorders. This includes clinical and neuroimaging characterization of Parkinson disease, Huntington disease and atypical parkinsonism, stabilising comprehensive biorepositories, and performing clinical trials to ameliorate symptoms of these diseases.
-
Parkinson’s disease prodromal phase
Identification of clinical, molecular and, imaging biomarkers that characterize the early preclinical phase of Parkinson disease. This includes the prospectively study (clinical, neuroimaging, biological markers) of asymptomatic subjects with pathogenic mutations in the LRRK2 gene and with REM sleep behaviour disorder.
-
Molecular basis in Parkinson’s disease
Elucidation of biological pathways and disease mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative movement disorders. This lines includes the use of cell models (fibroblast and iPSC-DA neurons) to investigate the molecular processes affected in PD, using biochemical, transcriptomic and epigenomic approaches.
