Teaching and Training - Unit of Alzheimer's and Other Cognitive Disorders

Teaching and training activities are also a pillar within the Unit. With the various actions led by the Unit, the aim is to enhance clinical and research training in neurodegenerative dementias for all levels of healthcare professionals in training. At the same time, the Unit works to promote continuous internal and external training and promote knowledge of neurodegenerative dementias among the general population.

Degrees

Training in neurodegenerative dementias falls within the subject of Diseases of the Nervous System in the 4th year of the Degree in Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona.

Postgraduate degrees

  • Resident training: The neurology residents of the Hospital Clínic complete a 2-month rotation at the UATC. The UATC also participates in the teaching of residents in psychiatry, psychology and family medicine. Every year residents of both neurology and geriatrics, psychiatry or psychology from other centers stay at the UATC.
  • Postgraduate training: The members of the UATC coordinate the Specialty in Alzheimer's Disease and other neurodegenerative dementias within the Master's in Advanced Medical Skills of the University of Barcelona. It collaborates in the Master's in Neurosciences of the UB and in the Master's in Neuropsychology of the UAB.

Continuing education

The UATC holds a weekly clinical and/or scientific session that is open to professionals from other interested centers. It also participates periodically in the general sessions of the neurology service and occasionally in other sessions of the Hospital Clínic.

The members of the UATC participate during the year in multiple continuing education days organized by different scientific societies, patient associations or civic organizations.
