Teaching and Training - Endocrinology and Nutrition Service
The aim of the teaching activity of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service is to provide training with the best and most up-to-date information to healthcare professionals interested in the specialty and in its different areas and responsibilities.
The Endocrinology and Nutrition Service leads different training actions:
Undergraduate
Some of the professionals of the Service participate as teachers in the 4th year of the Degree in Medicine at the University of Barcelona. They teach the subject 'Diseases of the Endocrine System and Metabolism'.
They also collaborate in the 3rd year subjects on Nutritional Pathology, General, Cardiovascular and Artificial and Hospital Nutrition (4th year) within the Human Nutrition and Dietetics degree attached to the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona.
Postgraduate and Master's degree
The Service participates in the training program for internal medicine residents (MIR) in
along with other specialties, at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. Since 2007, there have been two residents per year tutored by two duly accredited doctors from the Service.
All members of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service actively participate in the training of the MIRs. Between 2011 and 2018, between 1 and 3 residents of the specialty have been trained each year from other hospitals in Service Commission (external rotation) to complete the training in Advanced Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes and Surgical obesity.
In the last four years, the Service has hosted eight doctors from the Master's in Pediatric Endocrinology at the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu. Since 2012, teaching has been given to DUI in the resident internal nursing program and to nurses from the UB's postgraduate nursing degree on Diabetes Patient Care and Education. It also actively participates in the Postgraduate Program in Timeliness and Dependency organized by the Tecno-Campus de Mataró.
The 2015-16 academic year saw the start of the University of Barcelona's master's course: Basis for the Care and Education of People with Diabetes. Several members of the SEiN participate as teachers and subject coordinators.
Continuing education
Courses are regularly organized for professionals in this specialty, primary care and nursing, both nationally and internationally. Diabetes and the rest of the areas through which the Service develops its activity focus on this training activity. The activity is carried out in the form of face-to-face, virtual or mixed courses.
The members of the Service are regular speakers in the training courses of the scientific societies specializing in Endocrinology and Nutrition (diabetes, endocrinology, nutrition, obesity, lipids and atherosclerosis).
