About me
My name is Rebeca Fernández Ruiz and I currently work as a CIBERDEM postdoctoral researcher at IDIBAPS (Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer), in Barcelona.
I am a Biologist by training, and after finishing my Doctoral Thesis at the University of Oviedo, I decided to continue my academic training with a Master's Degree in Tropical Medicine and International Health, at the University of Barcelona. My goal was to combine my interest in diseases prominent in developing countries, with the previous knowledge acquired during my doctorate.
For this reason, due to the advance of metabolic diseases in developing countries, diseases that are underestimated and that are related to a growing influence of the Western lifestyle, I joined the Diabetes and Obesity Laboratory, here at
