The Committee on Sustainability was established in mid-2022 as part of IDIBAPS’ commitment to promoting practices that can reduce the environmental impact of research. The Committee is currently engaged in various initiatives aimed at improving the sustainability of our centre, such as the production of a good practice manual, the installation of recyclable containers for Class 3 waste, and the use of washable blue lab coats in the cell culture rooms, among others.
The Committee is also carrying out a study of electricity consumption at IDIBAPS in order to identify possible savings measures. To make this analysis as detailed as possible, the Committee needs the help of ambassadors to register all equipment.
Volunteers who offer to carry out this task will help to collect data from laboratory equipment, compiling technical specifications on it and identifying possible improvements. Besides contributing to the success of the study, this work will help to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability in scientific research. Once the data has been processed, the study will become an open resource for all those interested in sustainability in research.
Anyone interested in taking part in this initiative as ambassadors should contact the Committee on Sustainability (Laia Bonjoch, Michela Bertero, Cristina Navas, Jaime de la Rocha, Albert Compte, Sandra Piquer, Marta Kulis, Pau Sancho, Verónica Pablo, Celia Segura, Luis Mochon, Helena Mari i Daniel Arbós) or by email at SUSTAINABILITY@recerca.clinic.cat. A session will be organised to prepare these volunteers, resolving any doubts and queries and providing full details about the work to be carried out.
