The “Let’s Turn the Page! Books against Cancer” project has been honoured with the Lecxit Award from the Bofill Foundation. This award highlights educational projects and experiences that promote reading among children and that, like “Let’s Turn the Page!”, promote solidarity, community involvement, equity, innovation, impact and sustainability.
A total of 42 projects were submitted for the awards. The members of the jury selected 10 projects and, finally, the following three received the awards:
- Sponsor reading: community commitment in Castropol (Principality of Asturias)
- Experiences: cultural blending project (Valencian Community)
- Let’s Turn the Page! Books against Cancer
“Let’s Turn the Page!” was recognized by the members of the jury for its ability to combine a passion for reading with the fight against cancer. Thanks to the reading sponsors, who provide the funding, each book read translates into hours of research to find new treatments for this disease. In addition, the project has managed to involve schools, families and the community in general, becoming a benchmark in the field of education and solidarity.
Núria Vilamajó, head of the Clínic’s Sponsorship Area, expressed her satisfaction with this award: “Winning the Lecxit Award is a recognition that fills us with emotion and gives a huge boost to the whole “Let’s Turn the Page! Books against Cancer” team. This award validates the transformative power of reading and reinforces our mission to promote solidarity and inclusion, especially among young people. We would like to thank the reading sponsors and all the readers who have made the project possible, contributing to the positive impact on cancer research at the Campus Clínic Barcelona”.
Moreover, she added that: “Stronger than ever, we are already working on the new edition of “Let’s Turn the Page!” for 2025. Our aim is to reach more schools and more children, broadening the project’s impact in terms of solidarity and transformation. We want to continue promoting reading as a tool for social change, while contributing to improving the quality of life of patients and their families, and giving an impetus to research.
