With these funds the 56 involved researchers, and their teams from 34 research centers, will work the next three years to the advancement in the application of regenerative medicine and in surgical, pharmacological and conservation of organs and tissues fields. Of the 29 projects to be funded, 8 are unitary and 21 coordinated between two or three research centers. This involves the networking of Catalan research institutions with other Spanish and international centers.
Among the research centers funded by the TV3 Telethon, it should be underlined the leading role of the group formed by the Hospital Clínic and Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), with seven awarded projects, the Vall d'Hebron Hospital and Research Institute, with 6 awarded projects, and the Center for Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona, with 5 awarded projects.
Between 1992 and 2011, funds raised by the 2011 TV3 Telethon have funded 594 excellence research projects, with a total amount of 93 million euros. Thus, the TV3 Telethon Foundation becomes the second source of research funding in Catalonia after the FIS (Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria).
