The Clínic’s Nursing Management has held its 17th Annual Conference, devoted to research and innovation. At the conference, the Management’s professionals showcased the scientific work, innovation projects and some of the doctoral theses completed this year. Moreover, the aim of the conference was to generate debate among the participants and to assess the work carried out at the Clínic.
With over 800 registered participants, the conference was opened by Saray Alen, director of nursing at the Clínic. The Innovative Capsules were then presented by Dr. Carme Hernández, head of innovation in the Research, Innovation and Teaching management division. A total of 45 capsules have been presented in 2024 so far. This is the year in which most capsules have been presented since the awards began. The research and innovation projects have focused on the areas of Care Services, Digital Solutions and Procedures. This year, for the first time, the number of professionals participating in the Assessment Committee has increased, incorporating more doctors and professionals working on innovation projects. Once the presentation of the 5 finalist projects finished, the professionals registered at the conference were able to vote online.
The first prize went to the project, “Effects of the use of virtual reality during the treatment of endocavitary physiotherapy in women with chronic pelvic pain and associated myofascial syndrome: randomized clinical trial” by Carla Box, physiotherapist at ICEMEQ and ICGON. The second prize was for the project, “Impact of virtual simulation programmes in the training of nursing professionals: An innovation project” by Albert Monterde, nurse in the A&E Department. The third prize-winning project was, “Comprehensive management of cytological samples from patients with advanced lung cancer to identify candidates for personalized treatment” by Naiara Vega, a technician in the Pathological Anatomy Service.
The fourth prize was for Raquel Crespo, acting nurse coordinator at the Diagnostic Imaging Centre (CDI), with the project, “Development of a digital intervention for the detection and monitoring of patients with risk factors during their Diagnostic Imaging care process”. And the fifth prize was awarded to Anna Bastidas, nurse coordinator at the Clínic Neurosciences Institute (ICN), with the project, “Comfort room for deactivating episodes of anxiety/agitation”. The awards were presented by the director of nursing at the Clínic, Saray Alen, and the manager of Barnaclínic, Carles Loran.
In addition, 3 doctoral theses by the hospital’s Nursing Management were presented. Dr. Sílvia Pérez, nurse coordinator at the Clínic Cardiovascular Unit (ICCV), presented “Personal hygiene in the critically ill cardiac patient”. Next, Dr. Ana Martínez, nurse in the A&E Department, presented, “Construction of nursing knowledge in the commercialized environment”. Finally, Dr. Andrea Mallorquí, mental health nurse at the ICN, presented her thesis, “Metabolic evolution and lifestyle in a cohort of patients with schizophrenia treated with clozapine”.
During the conference, various roundtable discussions were also held, where experiences and best practices were shared by the different nursing management professional categories: nurses, assistant nursing care technicians (TCAIs), technicians, speech therapists, etc.
The closing speech was given by Dr. Adelaida Zabalegui, deputy director of the Nursing Management’s Research, Innovation and Teaching division, who highlighted the quality of the work presented and the high level of participation at the conference. “Nursing research allows us to advance towards more humane, safe and efficient care. Our patients and their wellbeing are at the very heart of all the results and achievements; this is our professional driving force”, she declared.
