On Saturday 11 May, the Campus Clínic will be organizing the first Open Clínic. It is an event that will occupy over 15,000 square metres of the streets and will include more than 100 activities, taking place on 4 stages, in 5 conference rooms with 18 talks, 15 visits in indoor areas and over 60 tents with workshops and information points. The aim is to connect with the general public by promoting preventive healthcare and encouraging healthy lifestyles.
An event made possible thanks to the support from the five institutions that make up the Campus Clínic: the Hospital Clínic Barcelona, the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona, the Barcelona Esquerra Primary Healthcare Consortium (CAPSBE), and the Barcelona Global Health Institute (ISGlobal).
This event was designed, on the one hand, as an open day to offer the public the opportunity to get to know and discover the Campus Clínic. And, on the other, as an opportunity for the Campus Clínic to go out into the streets and connect with the general public, showing them all it does in terms of knowledge and research, teaching, the promotion of health and preventive healthcare.
Over the course of the day (from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm) there will be a whole series of workshops and talks, as well as sporting, gastronomic, musical, fun and family activities in the streets around the Villarroel, Plató and Maternitat centres. The different activities will be open to the public and registration will be free of charge.
Eight large areas of content
Over 300 Campus Clínic professionals will organize a whole series of activities spread out over eight large areas of content at different locations both outdoors (next to the hospital’s main entrance on Carrer Villarroel, on Carrer Casanova—between Carrer Provença and Carrer París—and the Jardins del Doctor Duran i Reynals) and indoors, with activities at the Villarroel Centre, the Maternitat Centre, the Esther Koplowitz Centre (CEK), and the Faculty.
They are the following areas:
- Community area. It will include awareness-raising workshops and practical information on health and social issues affecting the district (carers, community facilities, mental health, sexual assaults treated at the Hospital Clínic, vaccination, etc.).
- Prevention area. Awareness-raising and prevention workshops will be held here (on Alzheimer’s disease, osteoarthritis, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid, smoking cessation, etc.).
- Friends of the Hospital Clínic area. Information will be provided on the volunteering, sponsorship and international cooperation activities organized by the Campus.
- Research, technology and innovation area. The world’s first operating theatre with 5G technology will be open to visitors. There will also be family science workshops, a visit to the Tissue Biobank, the ‘Immunotherapy Café’ workshop, and a visit to the IDIBAPS diabetes laboratory, etc.
- Teaching and knowledge area. There will be guided tours of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona, and of the simulation laboratory. There will also be workshops to explain the relationship between the Hospital Clínic and the Faculty of Medicine, among other activities.
- Citizenship area. Different activities will be organized to allow the participants—both patients and non-patients—to give their opinion and describe their experiences (debating, co-creation and digital areas, etc.).
- Healthy eating area. There will be live cooking demonstrations and advice will be given on nutrition and healthy eating. We will be joined by prestigious chefs and local residents such as Ada Parellada, from the Semproniana restaurant; Eduard Xatruch, from the Disfrutar restaurant; Carlota Claver, from La Gormanda; and Jorge Cabeza Fernández, @JorgeSaludable.
- SOM CLÍNIC area. Area devoted to presenting the Campus’ projects and partnerships, and in which citizen participation will be promoted to imagine the hospital of the future.
A fun, participatory day
Entertainment will also be provided with musical activities, including performances by the group Xiula, aimed at young children, and the Majorcan singer, Maria Hein; there will be spinning sessions with over 80 bicycles; zumba sessions; swing classes; a community treasure hunt; Nordic walking; a xocolatada (hot chocolate stand) at the Mercat del Ninot and a performance by the Castellers de Sarrià (human towers group).
It will be a day to celebrate health, science and collaboration between the community and the Campus Clínic, where scientific research, the improvement of global health and links with the local community will all be promoted.
