The Sketching científic IDIBAPS project was devised with the aim of making society aware of the research carried out at the institute, in a different way, through urban natural drawing as Pastora Martinez explained. To make it possible, two workshops in scientific sketching were conducted. In the first one 5 professional and prestigious illustrators participated: Sagar Fornies, Lapin, Swasky, Cristina Curto and Santi Sallés. Before starting to draw a group of researchers from different biomedical fields explained them the research carried out daily in the IDIBAPS. The second workshop consisted on an open day in which 100 people with talent for drawing and curiosity for science participated. They were accompanied by researchers and the sketchers who had participated in the previous workshop, and were able to discover the what and how of research in the laboratory, to then be capable of drawing what most attracted their attention. With the illustrations and pictures of the two workshops an exhibition at the Centre Cívic Urgell in Barcelona was held and the book Sketching científic IDIBAPS was published. In order to carry out this campaign IDIBAPS collaborated with Zahorí Ideas - Drawing on Location School, Centre Cívic Urgell and Casa Piera, and had the support of the FECYT.
Now, with the objective that this initiative, in which art and science meet, reaches the greatest number of people possible, IDIBAPS has donated 150 copies of the book Sketching científic IDIBAPS to the Public Library Service of Catalonia. These copies will be available this summer in the main Catalan public libraries. In the presentation, Carme Fenoll spoke about those public libraries specialized in science and about the projects that are now working in Catalonia. One of them called 'Read science', is a virtual reading club that was launched in 2014 by the Library Service. Marc Boada, conductor of this reading club and science commentator also participated in the presentation. The inicial meetings with Amical Wikimedia, the willingness that IDIBAPS becomes a benchmark for the treatment of scientific issues and an agreement to be partners in the scientific literature selection of the Library Service of the Department of Culture were also presented.
