On Thursday, October 27, 2022, a delegation from the Diabetes Association of Catalonia visited IDIBAPS to learn about the diabetes research being carried out by researchers at the Institute. This is the second time that the Institute receives members of the association. The first one was on Thursday, June 2.
The Diabetes Association of Catalonia (ADC) is a non-profit organization that connects, helps and defends the more than 600,000 people with diabetes in Catalonia. In addition, it also supports research projects to make progress towards finding a cure for the disease.
After a brief explanation of what IDIBAPS is, Anna Novials, head of the IDIBAPS Pathogenesis and prevention of diabetes group, introduced the clinical and basic research her team conducts to better understand diabetes and create innovative methods of treatment and prevention. In the Novials laboratory, located at the Esther Koplowitz Center, visitors had the opportunity to see the pancreatic islet cell models with which the scientists work. In addition, ADC members were also able to visit the facilities at 180 Còrsega Street where researchers have the necessary equipment to analyze how exercise induces metabolic and molecular changes in patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes.
Between March and May 2022, a delegation of the association DiabetesCero, a group of patients with inflammatory bowel disease and workers of the Spanish Association Against Cancer have also visited IDIBAPS.
This is an IDIBAPS UCC+I activity supported by the FECYT.
