On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, IDIBAPS received a group of patients affected by inflammatory bowel disease, a term that encompasses different chronic inflammatory disorders of the digestive system, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
The visitors, patients of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit of Hospital Clínic, had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the research carried out by Azucena Salas, leader of the IDIBAPS Inflammatory Bowel Disease group and CIBERehd, and her team.
During the activity, Salas presented the main lines of research in which the researchers are working to understand the mechanisms involved in ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. In addition, patients visited the laboratories where they were able to observe the cellular models used in the research, as well as the IDIBAPS biobank facilities, which coordinates the collection, processing, storage and transfer of human biological samples.
This is the second visit framed within the new IDIBAPS project to publicize its research, which already received representatives of the DiabetesCero patient association on March 21, 2022.
This IDIBAPS UCC+I activity is supported by the FECYT.
