Núria Borrell will cross the Atacama dessert to raise funds against neurodegenerative diseases

The Atacama Crossing (Chile), a 250 kilometers footrace at 2,000 meters of altitude and more than 40 degrees temperature, will take place from 2 to 8 October 2016. This year, this challenge with a high level of demand, will have a very special guest. The runner Nuria Borrell will participate in this race with the aim of raising funds for the research carried out at IDIBAPS-Clinic Foundation, specifically for decipher why the aging of the human brain is associated with a higher risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases.

Many of the mechanisms that underlie and lead to neurodegeneration remain still unknown. Research studies in this field are focused on the better understanding these mechanisms and on searching for biomarkers that will allow an early detection of these diseases, before the clinical symptoms appear.
