The members of the Executive Committee of the Clínic Barcelona presented the hospital’s current situation to the minister and explained the master plans and the major strategic projects set out in the NUCLI 2025 Strategic Plan. A participatory roadmap to humanize the hospital, by focusing on the patients, who are the centre’s raison d’être, and on the professionals, its driving force.
Next, Minister Pané visited the cardiovascular intervention ward and the new, recently opened arrhythmia ward. The cardiovascular intervention ward is a hybrid ward (one of very few in Spain) that has a new radiological information system, a pioneer in Europe, which allows highly complex procedures to be carried out combining percutaneous interventions through endovascular catheters and open surgery. The new arrhythmia ward, meanwhile, has the best technology currently available for performing pacemaker and defibrillator implants and ablations (both simple and complex, such as ventricular tachycardia, etc.). The new facilities have the technology required for training and connections with any place in the world.
The Minister of Health, Olga Pané, also visited the new CORE laboratory, opened last October, which allows for the analysis of 5,700 samples a day and a 15% reduction in expenditure. The new system efficiently integrates various diagnostic technologies, automating the entire process from the receipt of samples to the issuing of results, facilitating data management and improving clinical decision-making. The new laboratory significantly reduces manual interventions, minimizing human errors and speeding up response times, leading to significant improvements in the quality and speed of the service offered to patients.
Minister Pané’s third and final visit was to the facilities in the A&E building, coinciding with a peak in flu and respiratory virus activity, and which has seen an increase in patient visits in recent days. In the A&E building, the minister visited the triage area, floor 2 and the Helios building.
Dr. Josep Maria Campistol stated that it was, “an honour to receive the Minister’s visit and to share with her the strategic projects that make us a benchmark in healthcare, research and teaching” and added that, “her involvement reinforces our commitment to excellent public health and the sustainability of the system”.
