Mari Carmen Paredes and Lorenzo Sánchez, of the Emergency Department, take part in Rio Paralympic Games

The athlete and former Clinic worker, Mari Carmen Paredes, has participated in the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games. She has competed in the 1500 meters and the marathon, which took place on 10 and 18 September, in the category of "visual impairment". The husband of the athlete, a Clínic employee, Lorenzo Sanchez, has attended the Games as a guide to his wife.

Although this time has failed to medal, the athlete triumphed in the World Cup Marathon in London in 2014, when she achieved the first place and broke the world record (which itself held) to travel 42 kilometers in less than three hours ( 2:59:22).

During the 11 days that lasted the competition, 4,350 athletes with physical or sensory disabilities from 176 countries participated. This year, the catalan representation involved 38 athletes.
