The "Rey Jaime I" awards are dedicated to the promotion of science, research and entrepreneurship and social commitment. The winners are chosen by a jury of more than 100 people, all of them prestigious personalities recognized worldwide, among them, this year, 16 Nobel Prizes.
Dr. Josep Dalmau is an international authority in the study of neurology and psychiatry. In the last seven years he has identified eight autoimmune diseases of the brain. His group's studies focus on a type of diseases related to autoimmunity, cancer and synaptic proteins. They have described novel syndromes and associated immune-mechanisms, isolated the target antigens, and developed diagnostic tests, some of which are currently used around the world.
The winners of the 2017 edition of the Awards were announced on Tuesday in an institutional event that took place in the Palau de la Generalitat Valenciana, with the presence of the Council President, Ximo Puig; the Founder President, Santiago Grisolía, the Executive President, Javier Quesada and the Vice President of the Rey Jaime I” Awards Foundation, Vicente Boluda. The other winners in this edition are Fernando Martín, in the category of Basic Research; Carmen Herrero, in Economics; Anna Maria Travaset, in Protection of the Environment; Susana Marcos, in New Technologies; and Alicia Asín, in the Enterpreneur Prize.
