The International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA) has conferred its Nelson Fausto Recognition Award on Jordi Bruix, senior consultant of the Hepatology Service at the Hospital Clínic, researcher in the IDIBAPS Hepatic oncology (BCLC) group and professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona. The award ceremony took place during the last ILCA conference, which took place in Madrid in September.
The award was presented by the researcher and professor Jessica Zucman Rossi, who highlighted particularly the impact of Bruix's research on the diagnosis, prognostic assessment and treatment of liver cancer over the course of his career.
In his speech, Bruix stressed that the accolade was a reward for the whole BCLC (Barcelona Clínic Liver Cancer) group and that “our success is based on creating a positive environment of generous multidisciplinary collaboration in which the different members of the group work towards the common goal of ensuring that patients receive the best possible care”.
This recognition of the BCLC as a firmly-established research group was also reflected in the active participation of other group members at the conference. Advanced practice nurse Neus Llarch presented the model of the Hospital Clínic’s Hepatic Oncology Unit for the care of patients with liver cancer. Pre-doctoral researcher Marco Sanduzzi Zamparelli coordinated activities focusing on young researchers, and Maria Reig, head of the IDIBAPS Hepatic oncology research group, was a co-organiser of the pre-conference course on systemic treatment and design of clinical trials.
