The agreement commits the signatory organizations to sharing information transparently and to promoting communication on research with animals in order to provide the general public with information on the reasons, methods, and advances in knowledge produced and which justify the use of animals in scientific research.
The agreement contains four commitments relating to transparency in experimentation with animals:
-Speak clearly about when and why animals are used in research.
-Provide appropriate information to the media and general public on the conditions in which the research is carried out that requires the use of animal models and the results obtained.
-Promote initiatives that generate greater knowledge and understanding in society on the use of animals in scientific research.
-Provide an annual report on progress and share experiences.
IDIBAPS also forms part of EARA, the European Animal Research Association, a European organization that includes public and private institutions in the biomedical industry and which also has the goal of informing the public on the need and benefits of using animals in scientific research.
