The event was presided over by the Minister for Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia, who, prior to awarding the accreditations, gave a conference on the new initiatives for promoting clinical research in Spain. Also in attendance were the Catalan Minister for Health, Marina Geli, the Secretary of State for Research, Carlos Martínez, the Director of the Carlos III Health Institute, José Navas, and the Minister for Health of the Andalusian Government, Maria Jesús Montero.
The main objective of the Health Care Research Institute Accreditation Program is to bring basic and clinical research closer together and to strengthen the idea of hospitals as research centers. The aim of these accreditations is to achieve increased scientific and technological knowledge of excellence and to encourage translational research on the prevention and treatment of the most prevalent health problems in our country. The integration of different types of research will make it possible to reduce the time between the production of the new knowledge and its application to medical practice.
