On Sunday 22 October, the Jut Against Cancer Association (Associació Jut Contra el Càncer), along with Sant Boi de Llobregat City Council, organized a zumba activity to raise funds for breast cancer research. During the fund-raising day, organized as part of World Breast Cancer Day, which is held every year on 19 October, €9,500 were raised. The money will go to the Translational Genomics and Targeted Therapies in Solid Tumours research group led by Aleix Prat. More specifically, the donation will be used to fund research into HER2-positive breast cancer, a particularly aggressive subtype that tends to grow and spread faster than some of the other subtypes.
Three weeks later, members of the Jut Against Cancer Association visited the laboratory led by Aleix Prat at IDIBAPS to learn first-hand about the research carried out there on breast cancer. The Translational Genomics and Targeted Therapies in Solid Tumours group is a leader in research on this disease. Among other things, it used genomic and molecular data to guide the design of clinical trials and the development of new biomarkers that predict treatment response.
