In 2022, IDIBAPS launched a new initiative to promote collaboration between the institution's research groups: the creation of the so-called "multidisciplinary research programmes." The programs bring together several IDIBAPS groups to establish collaborations, especially between basic and clinical groups, with the participation of junior and senior researchers. In that ocasion, IDIBAPS creates the Translational cancer research program, the Synaptic autoimmunity in neurology, psychiatry and cognitive neuroscience program and the Lymphoid neoplasms program.
This year, in the second internal call to build new programs, a commission made up of members of the external scientific committee has selected two programmes:
1. Metabolism and disease programme (MetaDis): a multidisciplinary approach to understanding metabolic diseases
- Coordinador: Mercedes Fernández, Translational control of liver disease and cancer group leader.
- Co-coordinador: Josep Vidal, Translational research in diabetes, lipids and obesity group leader.
The program aims to decipher the mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases through molecular and systemic studies, analyse interactions between organs and perform patient-focused trials. It also seeks to determine the impact of factors such as nutrition, exercise, microbiota and ageing to provide a global understanding of these diseases.
Groups involved in the project:
-
Translational control of liver disease and cancer, led by Mercedes Fernández.
-
Translational research in diabetes, lipids and obesity, led by Josep Vidal.
-
Neuronal control of metabolism (NeuCoMe), led by Marc Claret.
-
Lipid trafficking and disease, led by Albert Pol.
-
Chronic liver diseases: molecular mechanisms and clinical consequences, led by Pere Ginés.
-
Liver cell plasticity and tissue repair, led by Pau Sancho.
-
Cardiovascular risk, nutrition and aging, led by Ramón Estruch.
-
Endocrine disorders: crosstalk between molecular, metabolic and therapeutic determinants, led by Felicia Hanzu.
-
Pathogenesis and prevention of diabetes, led by Anna Maria Novials.
2. Translational research programme for brain disorders
- Coordinador: Eduard Vieta, Bipolar and depressive disorders group leader.
- Co-coordinador: Analia Bortolozzi, Systems neuropharmacology group leader.
This programme was created to build on our knowledge of the biological foundations and factors that predispose people to brain disorders through molecular analyses and new non-invasive tools. Its ultimate goal is to improve early diagnosis, prognosis and treatment results.
Groups involved in the project:
-
Bipolar and depressive disorders, led by Eduard Vieta.
-
Systems neuropharmacology, led by Analia Bortolozzi.
-
Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive disorders, led by Raquel Sánchez-Valle.
-
Pathophysiology and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, led by Jordi Alberch.
-
Imaging of mood- and anxiety-related disorders (IMARD), led by Josep Raduà.
-
Schizophrenia, led by Eduard Parellada.
-
Inherited Metabolic Diseases and Muscular Disorders, led by Glòria Garrabou.
-
Systems neuroscience, led by Maria Victoria Sanchez-Vives.
-
Neuropsychology, led by Carme Junqué.
