This agreement is the first demonstration of the good relations between both centers and will serve as a stimulus to promote international R&D platforms in transplantation and donation of human tissue. The aim of the agreement is for the TSF to provide the European bank with processed skin recovered from donors in Spain At the same time, the Dutch bank, a pioneer in processing human skin for clinical use, will collaborate with the TSF on the development of new techniques for treating the tissue and on promoting training programs.
This agreement was signed at Hospital Clínic in the presence of Dr. Raimon Belenes, CEO of the center, Dr. Welsly M.J. Bodha, director of the Dutch bank, together with other members of his foundation, and Dr. Blanca Miranda, director of the TSF. In the brief welcome ceremony, the Catalan and Dutch delegations formalized an activity that will be carried out from the date of signature until 2018. Both parties highlighted the importance of close collaboration on the recovery of human tissue in order to ensure the traceability, safety and quality of the material supplied for transplant.
Hospital Clínic, Barcelona promotes transplantation of organs and tissue via the TSF, a unit directed by Dr. Miranda, whose mission is to return in a useful form what society has selflessly donated by facilitating the possibility of transplantation. The TSF facilitates obtaining, preserving and distributing organs and tissue to the legally recognized health care institutions (hospitals, clinics, tissue banks, health care organizations, etc.) that require its services in order to provide transplants for all possible recipients. With this agreement, Hospital Clínic continues to maintain national and international leadership as a pioneering center in donation, extraction and distribution of organs and tissue for transplants and research and the development of new projects.
