Hospital Clínic and Catalunya Ràdio presented the “Crutches for Africa” campaign on 3 April. The aim is to collect orthopedic material in good condition that people may have at home but do not use. This material will then be sent to Senegal, where people with disabilities do not have the necessary orthopedic material to allow them to get around with a measure of dignity.
The initiative arose from the idea put forward by listener Jordi Pastells who took part in the “Suc de Coco” program - a competition of ideas on Catalunya Ràdio, presented and directed by Xavier Solà.
The campaign wants to raise awareness among members of the public who have crutches, wheelchairs, walking frames, prosthetic limbs, etc. at home that they are not using and that are in good condition, to encourage them to donate them. The collection system will be centralized through the transport company, MRW, which is offering its offices as collection points for the material. To find out which MRW office is nearest in order to leave their donation, people can call 902 300 400. Anyone who wishes can also come to the foyer of Hospital Clínic to leave orthopedic material for recycling. The Associació d’Amputats Sant Jordi, together with MRW, has been collecting orthopedic material and prostheses for more than five years for people in need and has delivered the donations to different parts of the world.

The “Crutches for Africa” campaign was presented during the special edition of the “Suc de Coco” program on Friday between 13:00 and 14:00, broadcast from the new campus and first international center for innovation of ESADE-CREÁPOLIS in Sant Cugat.
