Dr. Ramon Trullàs presents the mitochondrial DNA hypothesis of Alzheimer's disease in an In-House IDIBAPS Seminar

Dr. Ramon Trullàs, head of the IDIBAPS Neurobiology Unit, presented in January 9th an In-House IDIBAPS Seminar about what he calls the mitochondrial DNA hypothesis of Alzheimer's disease. This theory, based on recent results obtained by his team, suggests that in very early stages of the disease there may be an alteration of the functioning of mitochondria in neurons. As a result, patients in the preclinical stages of the disease may present low levels of mitochondrial DNA in the cerebrospinal fluid, a feature that could become an important diagnostic marker if it was confirmed.
