Science Section of the IEC, which was founded in 1911, split up in 1989 in the Section of Biological Sciences and the Department of Science and Technology. Section of Biological Sciences develops research programs in the field of Catalan studies, oriented to terminological issues or to the study of biological and genetic heritage. On the other hand, it promotes researches which contribute to the development and dissemination of research not only centered in Catalan-speaking territories.
The inclusion of Dr. Ramon Gomis as a new member of the IEC is a recognition of his work in hospital care, teaching and research. In addition to his duties as a medical endocrinologist at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Barcelona, he is director of the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS). Additionally, he is the author of several plays and fiction books.
