As a researcher he is an internationally recognized specialist in the field of diabetes. He obtained important achievements and awards and published a long list of articles in specialized medical journals. In the medical-scientific field he has been awarded, among others, the Biochemistry prize Pi Sunyer of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (1985), the Endocrinology award Leandre Cervera of Institut d'Estudis Catalans (1985), the Basic Research Award of the Sociedad Española de Diabetes (1994), the Lilly Foundation prize for Biomedical Research (2002), the Narcís Monturiol Medal to scientific and technological breakthroughs (2002), the award of the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (2005), and the Silver Medal of the Mediterranean Group of Study of Diabetes (2005). He was recently admitted as a member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans in the Biological Sciences Section.
On the literary field, Dr. Gomis has worked mainly theatre plays and prose. He is author of a social drama trilogy which includes Petita història d’un home qualsevol" (Juan Santamaria theater award in 1970), "Vermell de xaloc" (1972) and "Llumí d’or" (1975), his other works "Capvespre al jardí" (1986), directed by Lluís Pasqual at the Teatre Lliure (Serra d'Or Critics Award, 1990) ; “Al fil de la mar” (1992); "El mercat de les delícies" (1996) and "L’espiadimonis", released in 2012. As a prose writer he is author of "Barques i fogons. La Frau" (1990), "Viatge a la Mar de la Frau" (Narrative Enciclopèdia Catalana award 1992), "Cròniques de la Costa Daurada" (1992), "Reus, un passeig per la ciutat" (1994, with Josep Borrell) and "El Gabriel Ferrater de Reus" (1997), a biography of the poet.
