Dr. Elías Campo has been recognized for the contribution of his research on the characterization of lymphoid neoplasms. In recent years, his work has focused on genomic analysis of these pathologies and their clinical impact. His participation in the international consortium Leukemia Lymphoma Molecular Profiling Project has resulted in the characterization of new types of aggressive lymphomas. Also, his designation as director of the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Genome Project, to participate in the International Cancer Genome Consortium, has been key in the sequencing of the first complete CLL genomes in Spain. The results of his research have helped define patients with different degrees of severity and identify targets that may lead to new treatments for the disease. In addition to belonging to the group of 1% of the most cited scientists in all fields of science between 2002-2012, the jury has particularly valued his research model "of knowledge transfer which integrates basic and clinic science".
