Dr. Elías Campo awarded with the the Premi Nacional de Recerca (Catalan National Award for Research)

Dr. Elías Campo is one of the most prominent researchers at IDIBAPS and Professor of Pathology at the University of Barcelona. He combines the positions of director of research at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona and director of the Clínic Foundation with his work as head of the IDIBAPS research team Human and experimental functional oncomorphology. Investigations he led as co- director of the Spanish Consortium for the chronic lymphocytic leukemia Genome have provided valuable information on the genetics and treatment of this leukemia, the most common in Western countries. Today has been announced that the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, with support from the Government of Catalonia, has recognized his work with the Premi Nacional de Recerca (Catalan National Award for Research), the highest award of Catalan science. The statement announcing the award highlights that "his research has identified cells that cause leukemia, discovered new molecular mechanisms involved in its development and improved its diagnosis."
