Born in 1955 in Boltaña (Huesca), Dr . Elías Campo graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona in 1979, and completed a PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona in 1985. He is Professor at UB since 1986. With a translational vocation, he worked in the genetic and molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of human tumours. This works will to explore mechanisms and changes that may have an impact on better diagnosis of tumours, predict response to treatment and diagnosis of patients and generate information that could be useful in the design of new therapies.
The Premi Nacional de Recerca honors the researcher in the Catalan research and innovation system that has recently contributed significantly to the advancement of an international scientific discipline. The award, which will be officially awarded on January 27th, includes 40,000 euros and the recognition of his work. Dr. Elías Campo, who was awarded the Narcís Monturiol Medal by the Government of Catalonia, receives this new award with the same enthusiasm and will to continue working.
The Premi Nacional de Recerca, also awarded Isabelle Anguelovski in the category of Young Talent, researcher at the Institute of Science and Technology (ICTA) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), specializing in issues related to poverty and environmental inequalities. Finally, Josep Carreras Leukemia Foundation, promoter of many scientific research activities, donations and social support to those affected by this disease, has been awarded in the category of Science Sponsorship, the Ara Newspaper in Scientific Communication and the company KIC InnoEnergy Iberia in the Public-Private research cooperation category.
