For the first few months of the project, efforts have been placed on the patient selection process for the study of colorectal cancer in adolescents and young adults (AYACRC). The study aims to identify the underlying mechanisms, genetic or environmental, behind AYACRC cases to gain a better understanding of the etiology of the disease, to provide better treatments and prevention strategies.
The main condition for patients to be recruited for the study was an onset between 15-39 years old, and biobanked sample availability for subsequent studies.
Over the last three months, patient data has been collected to implement a database with relevant clinical information and biological samples from patients prioritized for the study. Initial administrative procedures have been made with the sequencing platform. Compiled patient DNA and RNA will be sequenced and genomically characterized, providing new data for subsequent molecular studies.
