To this end, the International Health Service has comprehensively analysed the content of Mediktor's Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based medical chatbot.
How AI ensures accurate pre-diagnosis
When assisting people with symptoms online, it is of utmost importance to comprehensively understand the individual's unique context, just as a specialist would do in person. Every factor can potentially provide a brighter panorama of their health condition and cannot be ruled out, especially in the case of diseases with an epidemiological background.
During Mediktor assessments, users are asked to provide their location. If they decide to skip this question and the algorithm still identifies symptoms related to tropical conditions, the system will automatically inquire whether they have been to or live in a tropical area. After that, the symptom evaluator deploys a series of questions to provide the most precise pre-diagnosis. The questions and related symptoms are based on an in-depth database created by Mediktor's healthcare professionals, which is constantly updated and reviewed by external experts.
The role of Hospital Clínic
In order to provide a safe, specialist-validated solution, Mediktor asked Hospital Clínic's International Health Service to review the content of its AI-based medical chatbot on this topic.
The professionals reviewed a total of 45 diseases, including yellow fever, Chagas disease, malaria and dengue. During this thorough evaluation, specialists at the Hospital Clinic provided advice on relevant symptoms and questions to arrive at an accurate pre-diagnosis.
"We are thrilled to be part of such a groundbreaking project, merging Hospital Clínic's longstanding commitment to excellence in this field with Mediktor's cutting-edge technology. I firmly believe in the power of such collaborations to transform patient care and improve outcomes in tropical medicine", explains José Muñoz, Head of International Health Service at Hospital Clínic Barcelona.
"By bringing the expertise of Hospital Clínic's specialists closer to millions of users, we're not only improving the accuracy and speed of evaluating tropical disease symptoms but also significantly enriching the patient experience in tropical countries. This initiative is a clear step towards quality access to care, ensuring supervised and physician-led assistance" – adds Oscar García-Esquirol, Chief Medical Officer and Mediktor's Co-Founder.
Marrying cutting-edge technology with world-class medical expertise revolutionizes the approach to healthcare for people with tropical diseases around the world, positively impacting millions of residents or tourists in tropical countries.
Leading the way in the approach to tropical diseases
The Hospital Clínic has been diagnosing and treating imported tropical diseases for over 40 years and is a leading reference center in Europe. These diseases occur mainly in the tropics, and they are usually related to specific environmental circumstances, such as heat, humidity and altitude.
Tropical diseases can affect both locals and travellers visiting these areas, which lie between and alongside the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn belts. Due to increased migration, tourism and work-related visits, the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe have experienced a raised incidence of such illnesses.
