On 9 and 10 October, IDIBAPS held its first retreat in Cap Roig Castle, in Calella de Palafrugell. Around one hundred people attended, including heads of research groups, management offices and scientific platforms.
The retreat featured inspiring talks by Antonio Vidal-Puig, from the University of Cambridge, and Mónica Bettencourt, from the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, who presented innovative ideas to improve how research centres work and boost scientific and technological progress and talent. Sara Ricardo, from SIRIS Academic, also discussed the preliminary results of the analysis they performed on IDIBAPS’ scientific publications between 2017 and 2023.
Brainstorming sessions held during the retreat tackled topics such as excellence in science, IDIBAPS’ institutional culture, talent, innovation, the implementation of new technologies, IDIBAPS’ collaboration with the ecosystem of Campus Clínic and other research centres, management and communication and dissemination.
The conclusions and proposals that emerged from the two-day retreat will inspire fresh action for IDIBAPS’ upcoming 2025-2028 Strategic Plan, which is currently being drafted.
Previously, on 25 September, a work forum session was held in which around fifty professionals involved in IDIBAPS’ research management and scientific platforms considered and proposed ways to continue improving the institution’s research management.
Altogether, the collaboration and exchange of ideas at these gatherings are essential to producing the new Strategic Plan, thereby ensuring an innovative and sustainable future for our research centre.
