Research at the Cardiovascular Institute is carried out by the August Pi Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), in the fields of:

Research at the Institute is based on two main pillars:

• The collaboration with the pharmaceutical and biomedical industry as a reference centre, carrying out clinical trials initiated and financed by the industry.
• The research initiated by the researchers funded by external grants from the Government of Catalonia, Spain and the European Union, as well as from private foundations such as the Fundació Marató TV3 or “la Caixa”.

The research is carried out with a multidisciplinary approach that includes different specialities (specialized cardiologists, radiologists, bioengineers, veterinarians and biologists) and encompasses the entire spectrum of the disease, from the basic study, with a translational intent, to clinical trials in physiopathology and therapeutics. 

This research results in a large number of publications prepared at the Institute by different professionals (over 100 each year) as well as the obtaining of competitive funds, the defences of doctoral theses (one a year), and the participation of our professionals in the most relevant congresses
